Overview Qualified nursing students may apply for the Nurse Corps Scholarship Program. If selected, the program covers your tuition, required fees, and other approved education expenses and provides a monthly living stipend. In exchange, after graduation you must serve at an eligible health care facility that is experiencing a critical shortage of nurses. Eligibility You meet the basic eligibility requirements if you: - Are a U.S. citizen (by birth or naturalization), a U.S. national, or a lawful permanent resident - Have been accepted to or are currently enrolled in a nursing degree program at an accredited U.S. school of nursing - Will start classes no later than September 30 - Do not have any federal judgment liens - Do not have an existing federal service obligation - Are not delinquent on any federal debt Funding priority is given to applicants with the greatest financial need. What the scholarship covers If awarded a scholarship, you will receive: - A monthly stipend - Payment of tuition - Coverage of eligible fees - Reimbursement for reasonable education-related costs (for example, textbooks, clinical supplies and instruments, and uniforms) Definition: critical shortage facility A critical shortage facility is a public or private health care provider that is located in, designated as, or serves a Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA). A HPSA is a geographic area, population group, or facility identified as lacking an adequate number of primary care or mental health professionals.
